The Andrea Gail, star of the "Perfect Storm", was an un-inspected commercial fishing vessel. She departed Gloucester Harbour, Massachusetts on September 20, 1991 with six crew members on board. They intended to haul swordfish in the area of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, Canada. The vessel began its return voyage to Gloucester on October 26-27 and was reported overdue on October 30, 1991. An extensive air and sea search was conducted utilizing U.S. and Canadian resources. However, the search did not locate the vessel or any of the crew members.
